Brian O'Hara

Brian honed his aesthetic skills in Germany where, while studying fine art in Bonn, he concurrently designed and built gardens with New York garden designer John Blackmore.

In 1999 he took up the position as chief aesthetic coordinator for the German company Tegut Ltd. the largest retailer of organic products in Europe with approx. 400 outlets.

Tegut is well known as a design innovator throughout Europe and has won many national and international awards for the quality of their stores and their corporate image.

Brian has developed a keen sense of space, proportion and colour and also an excellent understanding of materials and construction. He especially enjoys working with natural stone and water.

In 2004 Brian returned to Ireland and set up Projectgarden Ltd. specialising in unique urban gardens of all sizes.

In 2007 Projectgarden designed and built it’s first show garden at Bloom in the park which won wide critical acclaim for its minimalist but warm exotic atmosphere. The garden received much praise from architects and garden lovers alike and it was deemed to be the best minimalist garden in the show by the Sunday Business Post.

Brian believes that garden design can be an art form, but that it’s beauty should stem very much from it’s functionality (both aesthetically and structurally) and not just from random decoration. Every area and piece of material should fit comfortably together like a jigsaw, attention to small detail is essential.
