Patricia Tyrrell

Patricia Tyrrell is a plantswoman, horticulturist and landscape architect. Having studied Landscape Horticulture at University College Dublin she has worked in her own landscape design business since 1984. In 2006 she completed a two year masters in Landscape Architecture in UCD and since then has worked as design studio tutor part-time, first in UCD and now in Senior College Dunlaoighre where she also lectures in Planting Design, Construction and Landscape Maintenance in the  Landscape Design Department.  She is an ALCI award winning landscape designer.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Patricia believes there are three key considerations in successful design: people, place and planting.

PEOPLE:
She believes it is vital to listen carefully to the client throughout the design process. Understanding their needs is of the greatest importance, in order to create a successful solution that works for the client and is unique to them.

PLACE: (THE SITE)
Every site is different with its own unique context and history. Wherever possible she likes to employ local materials, which are more sustainable and express more clearly local character and craftsmanship.
The sights and sounds of nature enrich our everyday lives, whether in city or country and the protection and enhancement of biodiversity should be an essential part of the design process.

THE PLANTING
As a horticulturalist she combines plants with reference to natural communities and with the knowledge of years of experience of how plants grow and interact, to produce successful and easily maintained planting schemes, with attention to colour, texture and year round interest.
She works with specialist contractors whom she can trust to produce a high standard of workmanship.
