Tycho Mays

Tycho established Howbert and Mays Garden and Landscape Design in 2002, in partnership with his wife Anthea Howbert. Tycho and Anthea have worked with many of the country's leading architects and have established an excellent reputation for their elegant, natural style, their emphasis on quality materials and their plantsmanship. In many cases, the ongoing development of their gardens is also undertaken, as Tycho and Anthea regard this as being as important as its original conception.

Projects range in scale from domestic gardens in city and country to larger projects for community centres and county council offices. Many projects are undertaken in conjunction with architectural practices, ensuring that the outdoor work is planned from the earliest stages. The 'hands-on' approach often includes selection, supply and sourcing of materials and plants, where emphasis is placed firmly on cohesive schemes and quality materials.

After completing a degree in Art History at Trinity College Dublin, Tycho studied Amenity Horticulture at the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin, and Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. He recently appeared as a judge on the 'Super Garden' shown on RTE Television. He and Anthea also operate an online garden centre - dyg.ie (Delivering Your Garden), supplying many of the plants they have used in their gardens over the years.
